“Bubby, what should my grandchildren know about you?”
“Zaidy, is there one word you want my grandchildren to carry forward?
Grandparents and their grandchildren are invited to attend a session with JPL writer in residence Emil Sher to explore the longlasting value of writing down the stories of one generation for the generations to come. This hands-on workshop is designed to encourage the process of turning the memories and values that a grandparent carries into a story that a great-great grandchild can one day hold and cherish. No writing experience is required.
Following a discussion about the different ways generational stories have been preserved, Emil will offer some basic tips on what to consider when assembling a family story. Every grandparent-grandchild pair will then have a conversation on their own. That brief exchange can offer the seeds of the stories to come, an experience participants will be invited to share to inspire all who attend.
This workshop is open to grandparents of all ages but is best suited for grandchildren in their mid-teens and older.
